TV Script: “Star Trek: Discovery”

I co-wrote this draft with one of my favorite people, Aron Coleite. Our goal was to demonstrate how a Disco ep could feature a science-ish puzzle of the week that triggered emotional events for the characters. We hoped to inspire more anthology eps for the series, and demonstrate what we loved about Trek - Humans of the future working together to overcome challenges. At the time, Disco was transitioning to a new leadership team. To aid that pivot, Aron and I wanted to run Burnham through events that would facilitate the appearance of human traits in a character raised on Vulcan. The final version of the episode that aired got a dialogue rewrite after Aron and I left the show. The title was changed from “Deja Mudd” to “What Makes The Sanest Man Go Mad.” In 2018, the ep was the first Star Trek episode nominated for a Hugo Award since 2010.
